The Shooters tab
Everything about a shooter lives under this tab: their profile (gun, chokes, barrel zero), where they stand, their cloud sync, expert overrides, NVT tuning, and a full statistics report. Set a shooter up once and every discipline uses it automatically.
Overview sub-page — where this fits
Open Configuration from the main screen, then the Shooters tab. This is the Overview page — the profile itself. Neighbouring pages (Placement, Cloud, and others) handle stand placement and cloud sync for the same shooter.
The shooter you pick at the top is the one every field on the page refers to. Changing the selection loads that shooter's saved values; nothing is written back until you press Apply.
Choosing and managing shooters
The selector and its buttons sit in the bar at the top of the Shooters tab, shared by every sub-page.
- Shooter list & filter Pick a shooter to edit. Type in the filter to narrow a long list by name. The system pre-selects the shooter currently in the squad, so you usually land on the right one.
- Add shooter Creates a new profile. You'll be asked two quick questions — HALO on or off, then low rib (Skeet, Sporting, Hunting) or high rib (Trap) — and the profile is seeded with sensible defaults for that style. Rename it and adjust from there.
- Remove shooter Deletes the selected profile. The very first shooter can't be removed — rename and reuse it instead. Read-only profiles can't be removed either.
- Reset Returns the current shooter's values to defaults, keeping their name and PIN. Useful when a profile has drifted and you want a clean slate without starting over.
Names. A new profile is created with a placeholder name and today's date. Give it the shooter's real name before you press Apply so it's easy to find in the squad later.
Set up a shooter
Work down the page. The order below is the natural one; you can revisit any field before you save.
Name and height
Enter the shooter's name and height. Height matters more than it looks — it sets the eye level the calibration cross appears at and helps the system present targets from the right viewpoint.
Height, and every measurement on this page, follows the system's unit setting. In metric you'll see centimetres and millimetres; in imperial, inches and feet. Change the unit in the System configuration page.
Gun type
Choose Over/Under or Semi/Auto. This changes what the rest of the page shows:
- Over/Under reveals a second barrel section, so you can set the under and over barrels independently.
- Semi/Auto hides the second barrel and shows a magazine size instead.
Chokes and cartridges
Pick the choke and cartridge for each barrel. These decide how the pellets spread and carry, which the simulator uses when it works out whether a target breaks.
Rest on a cartridge in the list to see its details — shot material, size, load and speed — so you can match it to what the shooter actually uses. Cartridges themselves are created and edited on the Cartridges tab.
Barrel zero and pattern
This is where you tell the system where the gun actually shoots. For each barrel you set:
- Barrel length — affects how the pattern opens up down range.
- Far POI & distance — where the point of impact sits at a chosen distance (for example how high the gun shoots at 20 m).
- Pattern slider — the high/low balance of the pattern, from 50/50 through 60/40 and beyond.
The POI figure and the pattern slider are two views of the same thing — move one and the other updates to match. Set whichever is easier to think about for the gun in front of you.
Eye to bead
The distance from the shooter's eye to the front bead. It refines how the aim line is worked out. A sensible default is filled in for new profiles; adjust it if you measure the shooter's actual mount.
Save
Press Apply to write everything to this shooter's profile. If a value looks off — an unusual height, a PIN that's too short — a message appears and nothing is saved until it's fixed. Cancel discards changes and returns to the main screen.
Shooting style & stance
These tune how the shooter stands and shoots so scoring reflects their real technique.
- Handedness Right or left. Affects the shooter's viewpoint and mount.
- Stance lean How far the shooter leans into the gun — from none through to large. Match it to the shooter's natural posture.
- Calibration mode How the gun's laser is lined up. One point is quick and fine for most shooters; three point maps the aim across the screen for extra accuracy. You run the calibration itself from the shooter row on the main screen.
- ATA handicap The shooter's handicap yardage, 16 to 27 yards, used in handicap trap.
Training aids & overrides
Optional per-shooter helpers. Most default to System default, meaning they follow the range-wide setting until you change them here.
- HALO override A visibility halo around the target for easier tracking. Leave on system default, or force it on or off for this shooter.
- Clay colour override Force a specific clay colour for this shooter — useful for colour-blind shooters or difficult backgrounds.
- Clay size override Scales the target from 80% up to 160% of normal — a gentle way to make targets easier or harder.
- NVT override Turns the Neurologic Visual Trainer on or off for this shooter, overriding the system setting.
- Instant feedback Shows the result of a shot immediately. You can add a short delay and set how long the feedback stays on screen.
- Colour-blind mode Adjusts colours for colour-blind shooters.
- Show visual pellets Draws the pellet cloud so the shooter can see where the shot went.
- Favourite Pins the shooter to the top of lists for quick access.
PIN protection
A shooter's profile can be locked so only someone with the code can view or edit it — handy on a shared range where profiles hold personal calibration.
Turn on protection
Enable PIN protection and enter a 6-digit PIN twice to confirm. Both entries must match, and the PIN must be exactly six digits.
Opening a protected profile later
Selecting a protected shooter shows a PIN prompt before any of their settings appear. Enter the code to unlock, or cancel to return to an unprotected shooter.
There's no master override. If a PIN is forgotten the profile can't be opened. Keep a note somewhere safe, or leave protection off for casual or guest shooters.
More for this shooter
Buttons along the bottom of the profile open related tools for the shooter you're editing.
- View statistics Opens a report of this shooter's results across date ranges — shots, hits, hit ratio and more, broken down by round type.
- Coaching Opens the remote-coaching tools for this shooter.
- Upload recordings Sends this shooter's saved recordings for analysis.
Placement sub-page
Shooters → Placement. Sets where the shooter stands at each station, and a per-station camera angle. Useful when a shooter wants a consistent stance position across visits, or when a station's default view needs adjusting for them.
- Station Pick the station you're setting up. Everything below applies to the selected station.
- Placement grid Click a cell to set where the shooter stands at this station. The centre cell is the default; the surrounding cells shift the position. Cell numbers match the stored placement value.
- Camera angle A per-station camera-angle adjustment for the selected station, with Store camera angle to save it. Set angles on all stations applies the current angle to every station at once.
Cloud sub-page
Shooters → Cloud. Manages this shooter's cloud profile — storing it online so it follows them between systems, and choosing what happens to the local copy when the program closes.
- Cloud status Shows whether the profile is present in the cloud — present, or NOT PRESENT if it isn't stored yet or there's no connection. On a TrueHunt system it reads NOT ALLOWED.
- Retention of profile Three choices: Keep profile here, sync when changed (the normal setting); Remove when closing, save changes (a shared/kiosk machine that shouldn't keep profiles, but pushes edits up first); or Remove when closing, discard changes (leave no trace).
- Send to cloud Uploads this shooter's profile now. Needs an internet connection.
Offline is fine. Cloud is optional — a system with no internet still works fully with local profiles. The status simply shows NOT PRESENT until you reconnect and send.
Expert sub-page
Shooters → Expert. Per-shooter force and timing overrides that sit apart from the main profile. Also a quick way to copy a shooter's full settings for support.
- Override minimum force Sets a custom minimum force required to break a clay for this shooter, overriding the range-wide value. The value field appears when the override is on.
- Hide force Hides the force readout for this shooter.
- Projector delay adjustment A per-shooter fine-tune of projector timing, on top of the system default.
- Copy settings to clipboard Copies this shooter's complete settings as text — handy to paste into a support message.
Perceived lead. A QR code on this page links to a short video explaining perceived lead — scan it with a phone to watch.
E-Sport sub-page
Shooters → E-Sport. Two unrelated things share this page: the range's networked streaming service, and per-shooter progressive difficulty.
- Streamer Broadcasts this system's session on the network for spectators or a stream.
- Listener Receives another system's stream. The IP and port fields appear when listening; defaults are seeded for you.
- Progressive training Enables progressive difficulty for this shooter, with a Yes/No for whether it resets each round.
Two halves, saved together. The streamer/listener settings are system-wide; progressive training is per shooter. Apply saves both — if no shooter is selected, only the network half is saved and you'll be told.
NVT sub-page
Shooters → NVT. Per-station overrides for the Neurological Visual Trainer. The global NVT defaults live on the Training tab; this page fine-tunes individual stations for the selected shooter.
Pick a station
Choose the station from the dropdown. Its current values load into the sliders — the page tells you whether the station uses a custom override or the defaults.
Set trigger distance and compression
Slide trigger distance and compression to the values you want for this station, then press Save this station. To drop a custom setting and fall back to the global default, use Use default for this station.
Save each station before switching. If you move the sliders and then change the station dropdown without saving, you'll be prompted — the edits aren't kept until you press Save this station.
Statistics report
Opened by View statistics on the profile. A full report of the shooter's results, with a trend chart and a per-round-type breakdown.
- Trend A chart of the shooter's hit rate over time, filterable to the recent window you care about.
- Per-section breakdown For each date range: total shots, hits, hit ratio, first- and second-shot hits, and force, broken down by round type. A filter box narrows the table to a specific round type.
Quick start
- Open Configuration → Shooters and pick or Add a shooter.
- Set the name and height.
- Choose gun type, then chokes and cartridges.
- Set the barrel zero and pattern for each barrel.
- Adjust stance, handedness and any training aids you want.
- Press Apply — then calibrate the gun from the shooter row on the main screen.
