TrueClays Cloud
Competitions
Clubs, federations and associations run their own competitions on TrueClays Cloud. Shooters take part from any connected TrueClays simulator, and results are public.
TrueClays provides the tools. Each organization manages its own members, rules and competitions.
The big picture
Organizers and judges work on the website. Shooters work in the simulator. TrueClays Cloud sits between them and keeps the rules, the rounds and the results.
The new TrueClays signs in once with TrueCloudLink and can join every competition. Older versions keep working for ordinary competitions.
Organizations form a tree
Every organization has one parent. An organization above can approve what is below it: A approves B, B approves C. How many levels there are, and what they are called, is up to the people running them.
Example tree. The small grey word in each box is a free-text label: "Federation", "Region", "Club", or whatever the organization chooses. The system doesn't treat any label differently.
Adding an organization
Shortcut: an admin of the parent can create the organization directly, and it's active at once.
Top-level organizations are decided by TrueClays. An organization is never approved by its own admins.
An active organization can be suspended from above. While it is suspended, roles held there give no rights below it. Moving an organization to another parent is done by TrueClays on request.
Roles flow downwards
A person gets a role in an organization. That role also counts in every organization below it. If someone has roles at several levels, the highest one counts.
| What they can do | Member | Judge | Organizer | Admin |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Belong to the organization and see its members | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Correct scores, void rounds, disqualify (with a reason) | – | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Create, edit, publish and close competitions | – | – | ✓ | ✓ |
| Ask an organization above for approval | – | – | ✓ | ✓ |
| Edit the organization and manage members | – | – | – | ✓ |
| Create organizations below and decide requests | – | – | – | ✓ |
| Approve competitions, write rulesets, set policies | – | – | – | ✓ |
Anyone with an account can also run a personal competition that doesn't belong to an organization. TrueClays staff are admins everywhere.
A competition's life
A competition moves through four states. Simulators only see it while it is published.
* Unpublish only works before anyone has shot. After that the competition must be closed. Publishing is refused if the competition has no settings, or if an organization above it blocks it (see Approvals and policies).
Rules and settings
A competition's rules are the simulator settings every shooter gets: clay speed, size, lighting, background and so on. Optionally they also include one gun and cartridge for everyone. There are three ways to fill them in, and they can be combined.
The rules fingerprint is a short code calculated from the settings, gun and course. Approvals are tied to it, and a simulator whose fingerprint doesn't match must join again before it can shoot.
Send to Cloud
1 · Set up
Set up the discipline as it should be shot. Then press Config → Send to Cloud, or Send settings in the competition window.
2 · Choose
Name it and pick the discipline. The gun is optional and off by default. For Compak you can include a course.
3 · Use it
It appears under From simulators. Start a competition or ruleset from it, or apply it to an existing one.
Only a simulator signed in to TrueClays Cloud can send settings, and they go to the account it is signed in with. Slow motion is always off in a competition.
Approvals and policies
An organizer can ask any organization above their own to approve a competition. Once it is approved, the competition shows that organization's badge. The highest approval is the one shown.
Rulesets are named rule packages that an organization's admins write and version. A competition that follows one is marked as following it, or shows exactly which settings it changed.
Sanctioned competitions
Some competitions are for the new TrueClays only. There, every round is linked to a signed-in simulator and every shot is signed. We call these sanctioned. Any one of these four makes a competition sanctioned automatically.
The editor and the competition's info page both say why a competition is sanctioned.
Older versions keep working for every other competition, within its dates. A simulator that is too old to sign in is asked to update.
A score that can be trusted
Each round gets its own secret key. Every shot is numbered and signed with it, so a score can't be changed on the way or counted twice.
Joining from a simulator
The competition window lists every open competition. There are two kinds of code, and they do different things.
Unlocks a private competition
One code per competition. The simulator remembers it and lists the competition with an Invite tag until it ends: without an end date for 24 hours, and never longer than 60 days.
Forget takes it off the list again.
Says who you shoot for
One code per club in the same competition. Shooters who join with it are counted for that club, so results can be filtered by club.
The organizer can also assign shooters to a club by hand in the editor.
Click a competition's name in the competition window to see who organizes it, the rules and the course. The same information is on the web at /c/{id}.
Shooting a round
What happens between a new TrueClays and the Cloud. The shooter sees none of it; they join and shoot.
A round belongs to the account and the machine that started it. If the connection drops, the simulator resends, and the Cloud ignores shots it already has. If the organizer changed the rules in between, the Cloud answers "join again" at step 3.
Custom Compak courses
A Compak competition can use one of the standard layouts (1–8) or a course built in the course designer. With a custom course, everyone shoots the same stations and targets on the same background, in every round.
A custom course makes the competition sanctioned, because only the new TrueClays can load it. The course is part of the rules fingerprint: change it after publishing and every simulator has to join again.
Results and judges
Results are public and update live while a competition is published. Anyone can filter them by organization, including the whole branch below it, so a federation sees every club under it.
Judges work while a competition is published or closed. Once it is final, nothing changes. Organizers can limit who sees results to their own organization and those below it.
Organizing a competition
- 1
Set up the discipline in TrueClays and press Send to Cloud.
- 2
On the web, open From simulators and start a competition from it. Choose the host organization and the dates.
- 3
Add a description, choose open or invite-only entry, and create organization codes for the clubs taking part.
- 4
If you want a badge, or an organization above you requires it, ask for approval and wait for the decision.
- 5
Publish. The competition appears on simulators and shooters can start.
- 6
Close when shooting is over. Judges check the results and correct anything that needs it.
- 7
Finalize. The results are official.
Where to find it

/results | Public results for every competition |
/o/{slug} | An organization's public page and results |
/c/{id} | A competition's info page: organizer, rules, course |
Set it up on the range, send it to the Cloud, publish. Every TrueClays that joins shoots exactly the same rules, and every score lands in one public result list.
