1 How it works

Organizers work on the website, shooters work on the simulator, and TrueClays Cloud keeps the rules, the rounds and the results.

On a TrueClays simulator almost everything can be adjusted: clay speed and size, lighting, background, the aids shown after a shot. A competition is only fair if every shooter gets the same. With TrueClays Cloud the organizer decides the settings once, on the website, and every simulator that joins the competition gets exactly those settings automatically. Shooters can't change them, and once the first round has been shot the rules are locked.

On the websiteOrganizations, competitions, rules, approvals, judging and the public results.
On the simulatorJoining, shooting, the leaderboard, and sending your settings up to the website.
ResultsPublic and live at cloud.trueclays.com/results, filterable by club, school or federation.
Signed roundsA simulator connected to TrueClays Cloud signs every shot, so its results are marked as verified.

2 What you need

  • An account on cloud.trueclays.com — Create account on the website. Confirm your email address before you continue.
  • The current TrueClays version on the simulators that will take part.
  • Simulators connected to TrueClays Cloud (section 4). Needed to send settings, for sanctioned competitions and for verified results.
  • An organization — only if you run competitions for a club, school or federation. You can also run a personal competition without one.
TrueClays provides the tools — you run your competitions

Each club, school and federation manages its own members, rules and competitions. TrueClays only decides top-level organizations.

3 Your organization

Organizations form a tree. An organization above can approve what is below it.

Every organization has one parent: a federation can have states or regions under it, and those have their clubs, colleges and shooting centres. How many levels there are, and what they are called, is up to you. The Kind of an organization is free text — Federation, State, Club, College, Shooting centre — and only a label.

Adding an organization

  1. Go to Organizations and press New organization.
  2. Under Belongs to, choose the organization it sits under — for a club, its region or federation. Top level is approved by TrueClays.
  3. Fill in Name, Kind, Country and, if you like, a Description. Press Create / request.
  4. If you are an admin of the organization above, it is created straight away. Otherwise it is a request: an admin above approves or rejects it, and you see it under Your requests meanwhile.

Members and roles

A role in an organization also applies to every organization below it. Someone who is organizer for a region can run competitions for all its clubs. Admins of organizations above have admin rights too.

RoleCan
adminEdit the organization and its policies, manage members, add organizations below it, approve requests and competitions from below, write rulesets. Everything an organizer can.
organizerCreate, set up, publish and close competitions hosted by the organization; ask for approval. Everything a judge can.
judgeCorrect results: scores, void rounds, names, disqualifications (section 12).
memberBelongs to the organization and sees its members.
  1. Open the organization and find the Members card.
  2. Type the email the person logs in with, pick a role and press Add. They need an account first — there is no invitation by email.
  3. Change a role with the dropdown next to the name; it saves at once. Remove takes someone off (Leave for yourself).

Policies: rules for everything below you

An admin can set two policies under Edit details & policies. They apply to competitions hosted by organizations below yours, and are checked when such a competition is published:

  • Need approval from your organization (or one above it) before they can be published.
  • Must follow one of your rulesets (or one from above) without changes.
Approving, suspending, moving

Requests below you are decided on the organization's page with Approve or Reject, with an optional note to the requester. Suspend takes away its admins' rights until it is reactivated. Moving an organization to another parent is done by TrueClays on request.

4 Connecting a simulator

Done once per simulator. It links the simulator to your account on cloud.trueclays.com.

A connected simulator can send its settings to the website, join sanctioned competitions, and shoots signed rounds that are marked as verified in the results. A simulator that isn't connected can still take part in ordinary competitions, but its rounds are not signed and are not marked as verified.

  1. In TrueClays, open the competition panel (the Competitions badge). The connection row is at the bottom.
  2. Type the email you log in to cloud.trueclays.com with and press Connect.
  3. The simulator shows a short code. Log in to cloud.trueclays.com with the same email: a yellow banner shows TrueClays sign-in request with the same code.
  4. Check the two codes match and press ✓ Approve. Within a few seconds the panel shows Connected to TrueClays Cloud as …
It stays connected

To disconnect, press Disconnect in the panel, or remove the simulator under Connected simulators in the account menu on the website. The code expires after a few minutes — press Connect again for a new one.

5 Sending settings from TrueClays

The easiest way to set a competition's rules: set up the simulator the way the competition should be shot, and send it.

  1. On a connected simulator, set up the discipline exactly as you want it shot — clays, lighting, background, everything.
  2. Press Send settings in the competition panel, or Send settings for a competition in Config → Cloud.
  3. In the dialog, give it a Name and choose the Discipline.
    • Include gun & cartridge — also sends the current shooter's chokes and cartridges, if everyone should shoot the same gun. Off by default.
    • Course (Compak only) — sends one of your own Compak courses with the settings.
  4. Press Send. The settings arrive on the website under Competitions → From simulators.

Using them on the website

Open From simulators and click the settings you sent. Under Use these settings:

  • New competition from these — starts a new draft with these rules.
  • New ruleset from these — for federations and clubs that publish rulesets (section 13).
  • Replace the settings of… — puts them into a competition you manage where nobody has shot yet.

Settings you no longer need are removed with the trash icon. Competitions and rulesets made from them are not affected.

6 Creating a competition

Every competition starts as a draft that only the organizers can see.

  1. Go to Competitions → New competition (or use New competition from these, section 5).
  2. Enter a Name and choose the Discipline.
  3. Under Hosted by, choose your organization — or Me (personal — invite code only). To host for a club, school or federation you need to be an organizer there.
  4. Press Create draft. The editor opens.

The editor

The editor is one page with a card per subject; the links at the top jump to each card. Set it up from top to bottom:

CardWhat you set
DetailsName, Description (shown on the info page and in TrueClays: welcome, rules, prizes, contact), Starts / Ends, Rounds per shooter, and the time limits.
CourseCompak only: standard layout 1–8 or your own course (section 7).
RulesetOptionally start from a published ruleset.
SettingsWhat every simulator is set to.
Gun & cartridgeOptionally the same gun for everyone.
EntryOpen or invite code, organization codes (section 8).
ApprovalAsk an organization above for approval (section 9).
StatusPublish, close, make final (section 10).

Time limits

FieldMeaning
Time to start round (s)Countdown after the shooter presses Start round.
Time per stand (s)Time to call for a target. Running over gives a warning the first time; the next time on the same target it counts as lost.
Pause per stand (s)Time to move when the next target is shot from another stand or by another shooter.
Max time per round (s)Upper limit for the whole round.

7 The rules

Settings, gun and course together are the competition's rules. They are what makes one club's score comparable with another's.

Settings

Take them from a simulator (Take settings from a simulator… → Apply), from a ruleset, or edit them by hand. Every setting is explained in plain language. Anything that differs from the TrueClays standard is highlighted and shows the default next to it; ↺ puts a single setting back. Only changed shows just the differences. Press Save settings when done.

Gun & cartridge

Tick Set gun & cartridge for all shooters to fix the choke and cartridge of both barrels for everyone. Leave it off and every shooter uses their own.

Compak: the course

For Compak Sporting the organizer also decides the course. In the Course card, choose a standard layout and press Use standard, or pick a course from your cloud library and press Use custom course. Courses are built in the course designer, on the simulator or online at cloud.trueclays.com. Every competitor then shoots the same course, with the same targets on the same background, in every round. The course is delivered to each simulator automatically when the shooter joins.

Rules lock when shooting starts

Settings, gun, course and number of rounds can't be changed once the first round has been shot. A custom Compak course can only be loaded by the current TrueClays on a connected simulator.

8 Who can join

The Entry card decides who sees the competition and how they join.

SettingChoices
JoiningOpen — listed on every simulator. Invite code only — joined with the code. Personal competitions always use the invite code.
Listed on the website forEveryone, or only your organization and those below it. Results are always public.
Only the new TrueClaysOnly connected simulators can join; every result is signed.

Invite code. Shooters type it in the panel under Have an invite code? and press Join. New code replaces it; the old one stops working.

Codes per organization. Give each club or school taking part its own code with Create code. Everyone who joins with it is registered under that organization, so results can be filtered by club. You can also set a shooter's organization by hand under Participants.

9 Approval

A competition hosted by an organization can ask an organization above it — its federation, say — for approval.

  1. In the Approval card, pick the organization, add a note if you like, and press Request approval.
  2. Its admins see it under Approvals, with the full settings and any differences from their ruleset, and press Approve or Reject.
  3. An approved competition shows ✓ Approved by … everywhere.
The approval covers the exact rules

Change the settings, gun or course afterwards and the approval no longer counts — ask again. If an organization above you has the "need approval" policy, the competition can't be published until it is approved.

Sanctioned competitions — approved ones, those under a policy, those with a custom Compak course, and those set to "Only the new TrueClays" — can only be joined by connected simulators on the current TrueClays.

10 Publishing, closing and cancelling

A competition moves through four states. Simulators only see it while it is published.

StatusWhat it meansButtons
draftOnly organizers see it. Everything can be changed.Publish
publishedLive: simulators can join between the start and end dates. Rules lock at the first round.Close, Back to draft (only before anyone has shot)
closedNo longer joinable. Judges check the results.Reopen, Make results final
finalResults are official and nothing can be changed.—

Publishing is refused while the competition has no settings, or while a policy of an organization above isn't met. The Status card says why under ⚠ Before publishing.

Cancelling and deleting

  • Cancel competition… stops it at once: nobody can join or start a round. Add a reason if you like; it is shown on the info page. Shooters see it listed as cancelled for 7 days. Undo cancel brings it back.
  • After those 7 days it moves to the Bin by itself. Drafts and cancelled competitions can be moved there at once with Move to bin — handy for test competitions.
  • In the bin it is hidden everywhere and can be restored with Restore for 30 days. Then, or with Delete permanently, it is gone with all rounds and scores.
Organizing, in short

Set up the simulator → Send settings → New competition from these → description, dates and codes → approval if needed → Publish → Close → judges check → Make results final.

11 Shooting on the simulator

For shooters: the competition's settings — and its course for Compak — are applied automatically.

  1. Open the competition panel (the Competitions badge). Open competitions are listed; for a private one, type the code under Have an invite code? and press Join. The simulator remembers the code until the competition ends.
  2. Click a competition's title to read about it: organizer, description, rules and course. Leaderboard shows the standings.
  3. Press Join, enter each shooter's first name, last name (optional) and country, and press Start. Train lets you practise on the competition's settings without it counting.
  4. Read the rules screen and press Start round. The countdown starts, then shoot.
  • Each card shows how many rounds every shooter in the squad has shot. When everyone is done it shows Squad complete.
  • The panel and the leaderboard refresh by themselves every 30 seconds while open, or press Refresh.
  • A shot that isn't registered is thrown again — up to 3 times per round. Check the microphone calibration and that the trigger is mounted before you start.

12 Results and judges

Results are public at cloud.trueclays.com/results — live while the competition runs, final when it is made final.

  • Filter by Organization, Discipline or name. An organization includes everything below it, so a federation sees all its clubs.
  • Every club and federation has a public page at cloud.trueclays.com/o/… with its competitions and results.
  • Every competition has an info page at cloud.trueclays.com/c/… with organizer, rules and course, so anyone can see exactly what was shot.
  • A ✓ marks results from connected simulators (signed rounds).

Judges

Judges (and organizers) open Judge on the competition while it is published or closed. They can Correct score, Void round (so it can be shot again), Enter a round by hand after a simulator failure, correct names, merge duplicate entries and Disqualify. Every action needs a reason and is shown publicly under the results.

13 Rulesets

For federations and clubs: publish approved settings that competitions can build on.

  1. Under Rulesets, press New ruleset — or New ruleset from these on settings sent from a simulator.
  2. Choose the Owner (your organization), a Name, For discipline and the settings; the gun is optional. Press Create ruleset.
  3. Organizers apply it in the competition's Ruleset card. The editor shows ✓ Follows the ruleset exactly or lists the differences.

Changing a ruleset's settings makes a new version. Archived hides it from new competitions; the trash icon deletes it — competitions that used it keep their settings.
