The Cartridge editor

Define the shells your shooters use — speed, shot size, material and weight — so the simulator can model the pellet cloud accurately. Advanced users can also give a cartridge a custom spread table for exact pattern behaviour.

Where this fits

Open Configuration from the main screen, then the Cartridges tab. Cartridges defined here appear in the choke/cartridge pickers on each shooter's profile. Press Apply to save, Cancel to discard.

Choosing and managing cartridges

  • Editing cartridge Pick the cartridge to edit from the list. Its properties load below.
  • Add new Creates a new cartridge, pre-filled with sensible starting values. Rename it and adjust, then Apply to save it.
  • Remove Deletes the selected cartridge. The first cartridge in the list can't be removed — rename and reuse it instead.

Properties

The basics that describe the shell and how it patterns.

  • Name A recognisable name — usually the brand and load, so shooters can find it in the picker.
  • Speed m/s and fps, linked Muzzle velocity. The m/s and fps fields mirror each other — type either and the other updates automatically.
  • Size & type Shot number, US or UK · Steel / Lead / Tungsten The shot size and its numbering system, plus the shot material. Size stays in the numbering system you enter it in — a #7 US shell reads as #7 US everywhere, regardless of the system's measurement units.
  • Weight Grams The shot load weight.

Quick tooltip. On a shooter's profile, resting on a cartridge in the picker shows these details — material, size, load and speed — so the right shell is easy to spot without opening this editor.

Custom spread table

By default the simulator computes the pellet spread from the cartridge and choke. A custom spread table lets you override that with measured figures — for a cartridge you've patterned on paper and want reproduced exactly. This is an advanced, optional feature.

Turn it on

Enable Use custom spread table for this cartridge. The table appears below. With it off, the cartridge uses the standard computed spread.

Pick a choke

The table is per choke — each choke has its own set of figures. Choose the choke you're entering data for; switching choke loads that choke's table.

Enter distance / spread points

Fill in up to four rows of distance (m) and the spread (cm) you measured at that distance. The simulator interpolates between the points you give.

  • Every spread value above zero needs a distance set — a spread with no distance is rejected.
  • Distances must increase down the rows.
  • Leave a row's distance at N/A to skip it.

Optional: override max range

Set Override max range (metres) to cap how far this cartridge is considered effective, if you want a hard limit beyond your measured points.

The table is validated on save. If a spread has no distance, or distances aren't in increasing order, Apply shows a message and doesn't save until it's fixed. If you're not patterning specific loads, leave the custom table off and let the simulator compute spread.

Quick start

  1. Open Configuration → Cartridges and Add new or pick one.
  2. Set the name, speed, size, type and weight.
  3. Leave the custom spread table off unless you've patterned this load.
  4. Press Apply — the cartridge now appears in every shooter's picker.
